John H. Chu is the managing partner of Chu, Ring & Hazel LLP, a 9 lawyer firm based in Boston, where he focuses on the representation of growing technology enterprises, as well as transactional matters on behalf of major corporations such as corporate partnerships and mergers and acquisitions. After graduating from the University of Chicago and Columbia University Law School, John began his legal career at a major Wall Street law firm in New York City. He subsequently joined Bingham McCutchen LLP in Boston, where he became a partner in its business area from 1988 until cofounding his current firm in 1995.
Between the time of his legal experiences in New York City and later in Boston, John and his wife founded a mail order catalog business. He and his present law partners have recently founded Fair Outcomes, Inc., a proprietary web enabled system to facilitate bargaining and the resolution of disputes.
John is a former board member of the Boston Bar Association Council, serving at various times on that governing body’s Executive and Finance Committees. He is also a former trustee of the affiliated Boston Bar Foundation and currently chairs the Joint Audit Committee of both organizations. He is on the board of Discovering Justice, which promotes civic education to young people, and is a former board member of the Citi Performing Art Center (formerly the Wang Center).
John also serves from time to time as a director or advisory board member of start-up companies and is a former Commissioner on the Governor’s Judicial Nominating Commission.
